Yoga and Creativity – A Warrior Sequence to Ignite Your Imagination

Modern research studies prove a positive connection between walking and creativity. I use walking to keep me going during long days in the studio, but what sustains my creativity the most, is yoga.

You are Light

When faced with a long day of creative work, I find that a short, 10-20 minute practice every hour or two lights up my mind and energizes my creativity. On days when I have only a tiny window of time to devote to art, I start with 5-10 minutes of yoga. This helps me draw a line between the chaos of the day before and the creative time ahead and gets me into a state of creative focus and flow faster.

I enjoy moving slowly through these poses. I settle in and spend time with each – breathing deep. Here’s my favorite yoga sequence to excite sustainable creativity:

A Standing Practice to Make You Feel FIERCE!

  • Mountain Pose
  • Triangle Pose
  • Warrior Two (my favorite!)
  • Warrior Three
  • Triangle Pose
  • Repeat in the opposite direction. 
  • End with a couple rounds of cat/cow and a few quiet moments in child’s pose to keep your lower back happy. 
Yoga and creativity
I leave my mat out where it’s easily accessible when I’m in the middle of a project. That way I can move from my studio to the mat and back again while the paint dries or the tea steeps.
